Performs highly responsible professional and supervisory work directing and managing COTA's Vehicle Maintenance Department programs and for overseeing all maintenance activities of revenue and non-revenue fleet contributing to the operational preparedness of buses necessary for meeting COTA's transit service commitments.


  • Conduct orientation sessions and arrange on-the-job training for new hires.
  • Evaluate instructor performance and the effectiveness of training programs, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop testing and evaluation procedures.
  • Conduct or arrange for ongoing technical training (coordinating of OEM and external training) and personal development classes for staff members
  • Confer with management and conduct surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes, and other factors.
  • Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials
  • Your day-to-day tasks could include: speaking with other managers to identify training priorities drawing up an overall training plan producing training materials, including e-learning when suitable working with external providers to develop specialist courses managing and leading a team to deliver and assess programs, updating training records and keeping all relevant documentation giving all staff the opportunity for ongoing development making sure training is cost-effective within budget and time limits
  • May be required to be available through a mobile device via voice and/or data during and outside of normal working hours, at the manager's discretion, and must respond within a reasonable timeframe;
  • Regular, predictable and punctual attendance required; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Requires an Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field and seven (7) years; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • ASE certification preferred.


  • Proven work experience as a training manager;
  • Track record in designing and executing successful training programs;
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.);
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills;
  • Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively;
  • Strong report writing and record keeping ability; and
  • Good computer and database skills.
