The Multimedia Programmer and Database Administrator performs professional and creative work to produce innovative digital products, such as responsive websites, mobile apps and interactive animated films and/or videos.


  • Monitor, maintain and administer databases, ensuring, amongst other things, that they are secure, the data can be retrieved, the database is user friendly and the data is consistent;
  • Experience with various types of databases and data management systems, e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, M-Files, SharePoint and responsibility for designing, improving and refining databases;
  • Responsible for managing data storage, back-up and recovery procedures to ensure that digital information does not get lost and the database system has sufficient capacity;
  • Will use the latest technology and programming languages, such as HTML 5, PHP and WordPress;
  • Will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle for new and emerging technologies;
  • Responsible for choosing the most appropriate programming language and identifying the right tools for the job;
  • Identify any development frameworks which can be exploited to speed up the development process;
  • Consider and implement solutions with cross-platform integration, i.e. how the solution can be used across various different platforms. For instance, if you create a mobile app, it's important to confirm that it can be used on an iPhone, a Blackberry and a variety of Android devices to maximize the potential; and
  • Code, test and facilitate the implementation of the product and manage any defects through to resolution;
  • Responds to escalations from IT Team; and
  • Provides availability to 24/7 on-call rotation as referenced in the IT Department on-call procedure.


  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related field and five (5) years of previous work experience in computer science, software engineering, animation, electronic engineering or graphic design.
  • Experience with a digital agency or I.T. company preferred.
